Review - Audi A4 Avant 2.0T Quattro

The A4 is Audi’s versatile and feisty mainstay that offers a complete package of style and substance which keeps it highly competitive with its class. Its model, which is ¡°station-wagon¡± to others, is ¡°Avant¡± to Audi. This one when combined with Audi’s 2.0-L TFSI engine and legendary Quattro AWD system takes shape into Audi A4 Avant 2.0T Quattro. The 2009 A4 Avant is more than a station-wagon with its exceptional looks, vividness and suited for the inventive.

The new A4 is comprehensively redesigned and is larger on the inside and sleeker & wider on the outside. It is also made stronger by the use of ‘hot-formed’ high strength steel in selected locations. The front wheels are moved forward, along with a 6.6 inch stretch in wheel-base and a 2-inch-wider track. The A4’s aggressive new front-end, with 14-LED eyeliner, beefy intake apertures, and mini Dagmars at the bumper’s lower end adds to the beauty of Avant. The new body side lines and steep wind-shield lend a sense of speed. The silver, snug-fitting roof-rails and panoramic sunroof to the tight rear-end is eye-catching.

Audi has set a high standard for the interior style and quality. The styling emphasizes a driver-oriented approach, with a module wrapping around and slightly tilting towards the driver. The standard video-screen and its operations are controlled using Audi’s ¡°MMI¡± system. The standard-multifunction-knob controlled Multi Media Interface adjusts which pretty much every facet of the car like- interior illumination, stereo stations and navigation language settings. Several interior themes are available with metal, with wood, or with Alcantara seat inserts, and all of them are roomy enough.

Under the hood of the new Audi A4 Avant rests the new 2.0-liter turbocharged FSI four-cylinder engine. It will be mated to Quattro AWD and Audi’s Tiptronic 6-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift-paddles on the steering wheel. It delivers 211 horsepower and a stunning 258 pound-feet of torque. The turbo-four engine is accompanied by less-weight and a fuel economy of 21 city/27 highway. The Quattro equipped Avant avoids any torque-steer at all by sending only 40 percent of the torque up-front under normal situations. It also makes the Avant dominant on winding roads.

It features a new suspension system with five-link up front. At the rear, multiple links are mounted to a specially designed sub-frame with more-compliant bushings. Its stability system is upgraded sufficiently by Audi. The driver can switch off the stability control-system and brake force distribution with split-¦Ì-steering stabilization & antilock braking remaining active. The traction control can be turned-off to allow wheel slippage. The ADS (Audi Drive System) augmented with Continuous Damping Control (CDC) shock absorbers and dynamic steering will elevate the driving experience.

The Avant has a 51 cubic feet cargo capacity and utilizes an easy to adjust cargo-anchoring system with a fabric belt. Also there is optional power lift-gate, a low-bumper height and a reversible load floor for easy loading. The 2009 Audi A4 Avant 2.0T Quattro comes with a price tag of $48,975 for the Premium model.
