The Infiniti FX was the model that marked the company’s success in developing a luxurious SUV with the heart of a sports-car. 2009 Infiniti FX50S is Infiniti’s latest offering to keep up with the ‘SUV as sports-car’ trend. It is surprisingly fast and nimble for a vehicle of its size. The new Infiniti FX50’s is high in both style and size, and so its presence can be easily felt when it is out there in public. It is a complete package of power, style and technology.
The FX50S comes with Infiniti’s navigation-system that features XM NavTraffic and voice recognition. Its voice recognition system allows the entry of addresses with natural-speech and is extremely easy to use. The center stack has the navigation screen with controls for navigation; a camera button that gives a bird’s-eye view of the FX for stringent-parking situations, a button to activate hazard signal and another that switches between AM, FM & Satellite Radio. Underneath the audio controls lies a control for the dual-zone climate control. It has a hard disk for music storage and Bluetooth phone support.
The FX50S creates a powerful impression with its looks. The dark-chrome grille is stocky with wavelike curves inside its gaping maw. The headlamps rake back into the bodywork, the front fender flares looks aggressive, and taillights protrude outside the bodywork. The metal vents behind the front wheels are slightly shabby, but they reduce front-end lift by five percent. The cabin does not lack a bit of plush or comfort. The driver’s seat, dash and door panels have been swathed in black leather with silver & piano black-trim pieces. The seats are eight-way, power-adjustable and include heating and cooling, power lumbar support, and the Sport Package with power adjustable back & thigh bolsters.

The new FX50 handles like a sports car with speed-sensitive power steering. The lightweight 21-inch Enkei’s reduce the unsprung mass and the four 265-series tires combined with the AWD system provides the luxury SUV with ample mechanical-grip. The FX exhibits remarkably little body-roll because of the evenly distribution (53/47) of the hefty weight of 4686 lb across the front and rear wheels. It also features Continuous Dampening Control (CDC) with a Sport and Auto mode.
The FX50S now appears as Infiniti’s new flagship, mainly because of its most powerful engine lineup. The new and improved 5-liter V-8 engine, known as VK50VE, cranks out 390 horsepower with the help of variable lift added to the intake valves. The 369 lb-ft of torque peaks at 4400 rpm and the torque curve gets broadened with the use of VVEL, the electronic valve control system. All FX models are mated with a new, seven-speed automatic gearbox and the power is channelized through all four wheels. It takes just 5.0 seconds to fetch 0-to-60-mph like sports cars and attains top speed of 155 mph. It returns 14 city and 20 highway miles per gallon.
The 2009 FX50S starts out at $56,700 loaded with most of the features. The mighty 2009 Infiniti FX50S is a bit low on fuel economy but is the hot ticket with its level of performance, the opulent cabin, and its advanced cabin and safety tech.
