Review - 2010 GMC Terrain

The 2010 GMC Terrain is a compact package of GMC’s innovative engineering excellence combined with fuel-efficient technology. This comes under the crossover make that includes durable, practical and above all high fuel-efficient vehicles. The Terrain is based on the Chevrolet Equinox but only on the inside. It is available in either all wheel drive or front wheel drive and four or six cylinder engines; with all possible permutations and combinations.

The new GMC Terrain is chunky on the exterior. The door-sill region is well constructed with its slim design and is easy to step over. The main reason is the stone guard that is attached to the bottom of the door instead of the base of the body. The 19-inch wheels feature a remarkably light alloy, at about 22 pounds each. The highly durable plastic wheel cover offers much richness with its polished alloy look. Both the deep red and the white & black models pack a visual punch.

The GMC Terrain offers two engines for customers to consider. One of them is a Direct Injection 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine. It provides a city / highway fuel-economy of 22/32 mpg and the estimated power is 182 hp. Maximum fuel economy is achieved with an ECO mode that is activated using a console-mounted button. When enabled, it lowers the automatic transmission’s torque converter lock-up to 1100 rpm instead of 1300 rpm. The result is a smooth feel of the power distribution but with a sluggish throttle map. The other engine is a DOHC 3.0-liter direct-injected V6. The power that lies within is 264 hp and torque of 222 lb-ft @ 5200. It delivers a city/highway mileage of 17/25 mpg. Both engines are equipped with a 6-speed automatic-transmission. Also, the rack mounted electric power-steering system provides excellent fuel efficiency on four cylinder equipped models.

The interior offers high comfort, especially in the rear seats. The seat configuration allows comfortable seating for five adults, and it can be slid forward to add more cargo-space in the back. Even more space can be achieved by folding the seats forward. The front seats are bucket model and possess a 2-way height adjuster. The steering wheel has a comfort grip vinyl and is integrated with cruise controls. The alluring part is even when the Terrain is complexly loaded with options the price is truly affordable.

A distinctive feature in the 2010 GMC Terrain is the ANC (Active Noise Cancellation system). The speaker system takes ambient noise, filters it and plays it back out at low levels to make the cabin quieter than it would otherwise be. The safety features are also fool-proof. The IIHS gives the 2010 Terrain the optimum rating of good in both side impact crash tests and frontal offset. The system consists of 6 standard air bags, stability and traction control, ABS disc brakes, and seat belt pretensions. Air bags also has child presence detector which adjusts seat-belts and air-bags automatically. On-Star Safe and Sound plan for one year is also included with purchase.

The new Terrain’s basic price is $24,995 which mounts up to $26,595 for the fully loaded version. Such low-pricing makes it an appealing choice for customers who are looking for an SUV with distinctive styling and high efficiency.
