Test Drive - The BMW M6 2009

The BMW M6 2009 is a continuation of the 2008 version of the M6. The M6 is a sports car with two doors and can seat 4 passengers. There are two trims for the 2009 M6, the coupe and the convertible.

The suspension is rear-type suspension and has coil springs and gas charged shock absorbers. Stabilizer bars are present at the front and rear. The suspension is variable and adaptive. The rack and pinion steering column is power tilt and power telescopic. It also has the automatic tilt away property.

The M6 has a 5.0 L, V10, Double Vanos, EFI engine. This is alike for the two versions. The power output of the engine is 500 hp at 7750 rpm. The engine is mounted longitudinally at the front. It generates a torque of 383 hp at 7750 rpm. The gearbox of the M6 is similar to that of the M5, which is sequential. The transmission is manual with automatic interaction. It is a 7-speed transmission system.

Crumple zones at the front and rear, ensure passenger safety in case of accidents. 3-point seat-belts are present at the front and rear. The safety features include passenger airbag cutoff sensor, front pretensions and head protection system. An emergency fuel shut-off device is another safety feature present in this car.

Floor mats at the front and rear and carpets in the cabin and the trunk enhance the splendid looks of the interior. Similar to the 2009 M5, the M6 has Merino leather covering doors and center console. The steering wheel is also of leather. The interior has reading lights at the front and rear and the premier BMW ambiance lighting.

Automatic headlights have automatic-on facility. The door handles have perimeter lighting facility. The brake lights are of varying intensity. The air conditioning consists of the interior air filter and automatic climate control system. The climate control acts separately for the passenger at the front and the driver. Audio, phone and cruise controls are steering wheel mounted. The 9000 rpm tachometer and exterior temperature gauge are some of the instrumentation facilities present in the car.

BMW provides the M6 with AM/FM radio with logic 7 surround system. It consists of 13 speakers. The M6 also has a CD player, 6-disc CD changer and mp3 player.

With all these features, the 2009 BMW M6 doesn’t come cheap, and goes at around $102,100.
